The sun was blazing today.
To my discomfort, Edan noted dully, as he dragged himself on. The uncomfortably warm air weighed down upon his back like a two-ton rock. Although the area on the map had been noted as 'Forest', trees were decidedly sparse. The ground was not soft but caked over with compressed sand and rock-- and each step he took set off a plume of red dust.
How long had he been going without food? Several days at least. Four...or five? At his point of desperation, the rocks looked delicious.
He blinked.
Was that forest? Finally? -Real- green forest?
The nomad quickened his footsteps, almost tripping over his own feet as he scrambled his way over to the green stretch of wildlife. He reached the edge of it in a matter of minutes.
"Thank god," Edan muttered abruptly, letting his lips curl up into a smile.
Then, he let himself fall, sinking into comfortable darkness.
The forest floor would make a good enough bed.

She made here way through Mitsurei's forest like it were nobody's business, silver flute in hand as she blew into it, fingers moving smoothly as a cheery tune became the outcome of the player's playing.
'twas a hot day, but beautiful nonetheless, and she enjoyed every blissful second of it --
Until she found herself stumbling over something - more like someone. She let out an outraged cry, composing herself before looking down to see what exactly she had stumbled over. A curious eyebrow only raised up when seeing the limp body cast on the forest ground.
She crouched down next to this said body and poked his head and tugged on his hair.
"Erm... Hallo?"

"Hoho! Another victim! *____________*" Kazumi said excitedly as she rushed over. "Now what do we have here?" She asked the flutist, poking at the fallen person.

Edan groaned, feeling a sharp pain in his stomach.
Did someone just kick him?
Moving till his back was on the ground, the nomad tiredly opened his eyes. His blonde hair was practically caked in red dust, and it was getting to his nose...
Sneezing several times, he finally mustered enough energy to speak.
"Wha...?"

"Ooooooooohhhhhh, bless you, " Kazumi said, giddilly, if you will. "Nice to meet ya. Name's Kazumi, and you're in Mitsurei. I have no idea who she is, though," Kazumi said, pointing to the girl with the flute.

"Kazumi..." Edan repeated, his eyelids already beginning to close again. "...Mitsurei..."
Civilisation.
The realization was good enough for him. Finally, someplace warm-- with food and drink. Another sneeze rocked his body violently before his vision swam over with black again.
"Tired..."

The blue-eyed flutist player blinked, before patting Edan on the head.
"Poor guy," she mused out loud, before shuffling her way through a pouch dangling from her shoulder. She pulled out a piece of cloth, and a canteen full of water, before pouring some of the water onto the cloth and placing it on Edan's forhead.
She then sat back, and resumed playing her flute, although a more gentle and soothing sort of tune.

It took another fifteen minutes before Edan regained awareness. The first thing he felt was something cool and wet on his forehead, and something sweet playing in a distance...
The music was heavenly, and his tired muscles visibly relaxed. He had always loved music, and listening to it after so long without sound was a precious gift he couldn't be grateful enough for.
Sitting up, he rubbed his eyes wearily. Letting the wet cloth drop into his hands, the nomad looked up.
"You play beautifully," He said to whoever was up there.

She paused in her playing, before smiling down at Edan.
"Thank you," she said, her smile widening.
She held out the canteen of water down to him. "Thirsty?"

"Very," Edan responded, accepting the offered drink eagerly. "Thank you."
Holding the canteen to his lips, he let out a contented sigh as cool, life-sustaining water began to flow down his throat.
"Sweetest water I've ever tasted," The nomad said softly, once he had finished. A small smile had appeared on his face. "You're very kind to help me."

She made a gesture with her hand, as if to swipe away his comment. "Ooh, it's nothing. I like helping people."
She then tilted her head and raised a curious eyebrow at Edan. "What were you doing laying on the floor anyway? I doubt the forest floor of all places is a very comfortable bed to sleep on..."

"Oh," Edan said, having the grace to look embarrassed.
"It was the most comfortable place I could find, actually..." Clearing his throat, he took in a deep breath. His right hand tugged nervously at the dogtag on his left wrist, causing the metal to clink randomly.
"I was supposed to be travelling to from Balmoral to Mitsurei-- but I got detained along the way by many, many, unexpected...obstacles." Many, many, he added silently, scowling to himself. "I ran out of supplies, and when I finally reached here..."
The nomad sighed.
"I was just pooped, I guess."
It wa good to use informal language once in a while-- gave the release no amount of formality could.

She frowned thoughtfully, nodding, before rummaging through her pouch again. She put her flute in there, and pulled out a fresh looking apple, holding it out to him.
"You must be hungry then. Here, have an apple. ^^"

"Thank you," Edan said again, biting into the apple gratefully.
"You're wandering around too?" He inquired after a moment, through a mouthful of fruit. "This part of Mitsurei I've been travelling in's deserted, from what I've seen."

"Wandering? You could say so... More like a stroll," she replied cheerily. "When you're up and ready to walk, I could take you to the better parts of Mitsurei's forest, and to the city, if you can't find your way there."
